چکیده

In this paper, we review the roles of collective modes in nuclear reactions. We emphaize the strong couplings of various collective states with the monopole and quadrupole motions. In inelastic excitation, these couplings can be seen as an important source of anharmonicity in the multiphonon spectrum. In fusion reaction, the breathing and quadrupole motions strongly affects the oscillation of protons against neutrons. Finally, the modification of the collective properties induced by a large amplitude dilution might be the origin of the nuclear multifragmentation, directly related to the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition. In the three cases we derive a coupling matrix element which appears to be in good agreement.

A program for coupled-channels calculations with all order couplings for heavy-ion fusion reactions

A FORTRAN77 program is presented that calculates fusion cross sections and mean angular momenta of the compound nucleus under the influence of couplings between the relative motion and several nuclear collective motions. The no-Coriolis approximation is employed to reduce the dimension of coupled-channels equations. The program takes into account the effects of non-linear couplings to all order...

Effects of finite width of excited states on heavy-ion sub-barrier fusion reactions

We discuss the effects of coupling of the relative motion to nuclear collective excitations which have a finite lifetime on heavy-ion fusion reactions at energies near and below the Coulomb barrier. Both spreading and escape widths are explicitly taken into account in the exit doorway model. The coupled-channels equations are numerically solved to show that the finite resonance width always hin...

Does localization occur in collective nuclear motion?

Large-amplitude collective nuclear motion is frequently described by a collective Hamiltonian [1], where the mass parameter is determined within the cranking approximation while the potential energy is defined by the groundstate expectation value of the many-body Hamiltonian as function of the collective variable q. However, due to quasicrossings of levels the mass parameter exhibits large fluc...

Isoscalar-isovector instabilities of a hot and dilute nuclear droplet

In [1] we have introduced a collective model which allows to study the bulk and surface modes of a nuclear droplet as function of its density and temperature T . The description is based on the diabatic approach to dissipative collective motion and – in the local density approximation – yields equations of motion for small amplitudes, where the mass and stiffness tensors are obtained analytical...

The Study of Nuclear Collective Motion by Stripping Reactions*

The ‘intrinsic’ prohabilit,v for capt, ure of nurleons is studied for nurlei which exhibit collective vibrations or rotations in addition to an underlying shell structure of independent, nucleon orbits. Such probabilities or reduced widths for lowlying nuclear levels can be measured in ‘direct’ nuclear reactions; the present discussion is formulated chiefly in terms of deuteron stripping. Variou...
